Making Crime Scene Body Outlines

3 dimensional visualization skills are important to develop the imagination, so a good way to develop this ability is to build and work with  three dimensional things.  Here we share the various projects our staff have done.

It is our hope that you will see the logic (or the lack of logic) used to make this project as an example of the kind of thought and analysis that goes into our script review services.

Freak out your friends and family by making your own crime scene!

This project is really easy, but you will need a few things

Big chunk of white chalk

Willing volunteer(s) to play dead

Bottle of slightly watered down ketchup

Optional: Yellow 'police crime scene do not cross' tape

Let's get started:

For your crime scene to look realistic, it has to look like it was made by your local police department. Most police departments use white chalk to make the outline around the bodies they find at crime scenes, so you should use white chalk, too. Make sure to keep the lines straight, like they were made by real detectives.

Start by finding the best place to have your outline. have the outline on the ground at your front door so it can't be missed.

Have your volunteer lay on the ground, and using the chalk, draw a heavy outline around their whole body. See the picture below of a body outline. Note that when limbs intersect, the outline is made to show where arms or legs intersect.

For added effect, make multiple body outlines in different poses.

Next, take the watered down ketchup, and pour a large puddle somewhere around the outline. For added effect, smear the ketchup around where the outlines of the hands are, to make it look like the 'victim' put up a good fight.

When the 'fun' is over, simply wash the outline away with the garden hose.

Let us know how your body outline 'worked', or send us a picture of it to our email.
